Land Safety

​​​​​​​​Each year, road accidents resulted in a total of 1.24 million people lost their lives and injuries between 20 and 50 million people worldwide. Road accidents ha​​ve been identified as the eighth leading cause of death and a leading cause of death among young people between the ages of 15 to 29 years.​ In an effort to address the issue of road accidents, the Gover​nment through the relevant agencies have been designing and implementing various interventions / road safety initiatives that include five elements: education (education), enforcement (enforcement), engineering (engineering), environmental (environment) and assessment (evaluation) (5E's).

Road Safety Plan​ ​2014-2020

The Ministry of Transport has launched a Road Safety Plan 2014 - 2020 (PKJRM 2014-2020) in November 2014 in an effort to improve road safety in Malaysia on par with developed countries. The plan is a continuation of the Road Safety Plan 2006 - 2010 (PKJRM 2006-2010).


Index of Accidental Death Road

Index of road accident fatalities per 10,000 registered vehicles (Death Index) is one method that is globally accepted as a method of measuring the level of road safety for a country.
