Cyclist Safety

Recently cycling has been showing a resurgence in popularity on Malaysian roads especially for sport and leisure. In tandem with the rising popularity the government and local public authority has joined the effort to promote this green transport by building bicycle tracks and bicycle lanes to make cycling safer. As the trend was new there is no real cycling culture in Malaysia, so motorists aren't used to dealing with cyclists and this posed danger to the cyclist. Thus, it is advisable for cyclists to follow the traffic rules and be alert when on the road to avoid conflict with other road users. Based on 2018 police statistics, the cyclist fatality is relatively low in Malaysia which accounts for only about 2% of total road crash fatalities which are 6284 deaths. A good reference for cyclists to follow to ensure safety are listed as the following.
