​​MH17 - Air Incident Investigation


MH17 Accident investigation is divided into two (2) investigations; the Safety Investigations stipulated under the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) Annex 13 and Crime Investigations.​​

ICAO Annex 13 investigation

​Investigation is conducted accordance to the Annex 13 to the ICAO Convention on technical aspects to prevent the recurrence of similar events in the future. The investigation team is led by the Netherlands and consists of Malaysia, Ukraine, Russia, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom.

The Crime Investigation​​​​​

A criminal investigation is being conducted by each respective country with citizens onboard MH17 such as Malaysia, Australia, Ukraine, and the Netherlands and also by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), led by the Netherlands and comprises of Ukraine, Australia, Belgium and Malaysia. JIT has been established to facilitate the cooperation among the countries concerned. The investigation is currently still ongoing.​​

​The Air Accident Investigation Bureau investigations are only focused on the safety investigations in accordance to Annex 13 to the ICAO Convention​​.
