COMCEC is one of the four committees established under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It was established in 1981 at the Third Islamic Summit Conference that was held in Mecca / Ta'if and serves as a forum for economic cooperation and multilateral trade in the Muslim world. The committee meets annually at the ministerial level in İstanbul, chaired by the President of the Republic of Turkey.​​​​​​.​​​​​​

COMCEC focuses in the area of trade, transport, agriculture, tourism, poverty reduction and financial including private sector cooperation. The Ministry of Transport is directly involved in cooperation with COMCEC Transport and Communications Working Group in which will be held two times each year.​​​

Among the matters discussed during the meeting were the experience of member countries on the achievements and challenges in project implementation and development for the transportation sector in these countries.​​​

The Ministry of Transport has been involved in the p​revious two Working Group Meetings (WG) which is the Fourth WG meeting by the themed "Developing Water to Sustain Tourism Linkages among the Member States" and the Fifth WG meeting in February 2015 with the theme of "Evaluating the Ownership, Governance Structures and Performances of Ports in the OIC Member States ".​​​​
