​Effectively on 19th February 2018, Department of Civil Aviation (‘DCA’), a government agency under the Ministry of Transport was incorporated into a statutory body known as Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (‘CAAM’).

Function of the DCA are currently carried out by the CAAM. The incorporation of the CAAM is in line with the requirement of the ICAO which has called upon contacting states to the Chicago Convention to establish an autonomous civil aviation authority to ensure efficient management of the safety and security of the civil aviation. As a sole civil aviation technical regulator in Malaysia with the primary function to regulate the safety and security of civil aviation, CAAM seeks to ensure efficient management of the safety and security of the civil aviation.”
