Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong
Minister of Transport Malaysia
Datuk Seri Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong has served as Minister of Transport since his appointment on 11 March 2020 under the Perikatan Nasional government of Prime Minister Yang Amat Berhormat Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Under his leadership, the logistics and transport industry has weathered the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic during the Movement Control Order which started on 18 March 2020. He has made helping the transport-related operators and associations a priority while keeping transport infrastructure development on track.
Dr. Wee had also served previously as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department from June 2014 to May 2018, developing policies on SME business, micro-credit programmes, and leading development of Chinese New Villages. Prior to this post, he formerly held the portfolio of Deputy Education Minister from 2008 to 2013.
Born 20 October 1968 in Jasin, Malacca, Dr. Wee has served in various capacities as a leader in the Malaysian political landscape since the mid-1990s.
He was elected President of the Malaysian Chinese Association in 2018. Before holding the top post, he was also elected to one term from 2008 to 2013 as the party's national Youth chairman prior to being the party’s Deputy President.
He has been the Member of Parliament for the Ayer Hitam constituency for four consecutive terms since 2004 and chairs the National Education Consultative Committee and as state liaison chief for Johor.
