Driving licenses in Malaysia by Classifications​

Learners Driving License (LDL)​​​​​​​

Are given to driving school students. This license only allow its holder to operate vehicles which has L plate from the driving school under the supervision of the driving school instructor.

Provisional Driving License (PDL)​​​​​​​

Are given to new drivers which has passed all learning procedures and tests.

Competent Driving License (CDL)​​​​​​​

This is full and valid driving license given 2 years after provisional period.

Vocational Driving License (VDL) or Commercial Driving License​​​​​​​

This is a special driving license for commercial vehicle’s driver such as bus and lorry, issued together from the Road Transport Department and Lembaga Perlesenan Kenderaan Perdagangan (LPKP).

International Driving Permit (IDP)

This international driving license allows Malaysian driver to drive abroad.

Disabled Driving License for Class A and Class A1 Application

The application for disabled driving license for Class A and Class A1 can be made at JPJ States/Branches centre only.

Driving license in Malaysia for Expatriates​

Foreigner who are not been given permission to drive in Malaysia should get Malaysian Driving License.

They should at first register with any Driving Institute in Malaysia and follow all the normal procedures to get Malaysian Driving License.​​​​​​​​
