Maritime Division consist of 5 main unit which are Port, Maritime Safety, Economy Maritime, Domestic Shipping Licensing Board Secretariat and International Convention. Maritime Attache Office is currently attached to High Commission of Malaysia in London to oversee the debate and discussion held at the International Maritime Organization which involves Malaysia’s maritime interest.
  • To Safeguard the interest of Malaysia to maritime transportation at the international level;
  • To ensure that policy/method/process formulated are in line with the MKRA implementation initiative;
  • To process and issue the Domestic Shipping License from the date of receiving complete document:
    a. 1 working day for Malaysian vessel less than 20 years old with the minimum of 1 Malaysian citizen as rating.
    b. 4 working days for Malaysian vessel more than 20 years old without any Malaysian citizen as rating.
    c. 1 working day for foreign vessel.
  • To issue Domestic Shipping License in 1 day from the day of payment been made;
  • To formulate the Term of Reference (TOR), done evaluate technical and present the outcome of conceptual study with regard to maritime sector project within 2 months period; and
  • To deal with any complain received in 3 working days.
  • To encourage Malaysian entrepreneur participation in the shipping industry both locally and abroad.
  • To plan and implement policies on navigational safety, pollution prevention from ship, ship security, property and life at sea.
  • To frame and implement policies, coordinate and oversee activities of federal ports.
  • To process application for domestic shipping license.
  • To review and update existing laws or formulate new laws relating to ports and shipping, as well as to ratify international conventions related to maritime sector.
  • To provide a modern, efficient and safe maritime transportation system..
  • To provide conducive environment for a seamless and competitive trade.
  • Ensure developments of maritime industry are in consonant with the environment.
